RIM launches Curve 8900 in India

RIM has introduced the new BlackBerry Curve 8900 smartphone together with Airtel, Reliance Communications and Vodafone.

The 8900 features a stylish black finish with chrome highlights and combines a compact design with a range of easy-to-use features and QWERTY keyboard. At approximately 110 grams and 109 x 60 x 13.5 millimeters, the BlackBerry Curve 8900 also features built-in GPS and supports location-based applications and services. It also allows easy access to social networking sites and has built-in Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g).

Pricing is bit on higher side comparative to blackberry storm as Rs. 27,500/-.

Research in Motion (RIM) on Thursday announced a collaboration with Redington India to establish a national retail distribution channels for their BlackBerry handsets. RIM expects this strategic business initiative will help it more effectively to tap the fast growing mobile communications market in India.

As part of the retail distribution agreement with Redington India, BlackBerry smartphones and service plans from supported carriers will initially be available in retail and modern trade outlets across nine cities. This includes Mumbai, Delhi, NCR, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Pune and Ahmedabad. Redington intends to expand the retail footprint in a phased manner and will offer a wide range of BlackBerry smartphones beginning with the BlackBerry Pearl series, the BlackBerry Curve series and the BlackBerry Bold smartphone.
