BlackBerry ‘Milan’ scrapped due to hardware concerns?

BlackBerry Milan

Back in December when we dropped the first, exclusive image of the BlackBerry ‘Milan’ it gave us all a glimpse of the direction RIM was heading for their next-generation BlackBerry devices. Now, new rumors are suggesting the device has been scrapped simply due to hardware concerns with not much else for information being relayed. When the Milan appeared, Kevin took the time to note in his write up:

There’s still time for RIM to tweak things up before locking down final hardware design for manufacturing so I’ll be curious to see if things change up from here at all by the time we get this phone in our hands.

In other words, the news of it being scrapped really isn’t all the surprising if it turns out to be true. Reason being, it was never a device that was set in stone when it comes to hardware and design to begin with.

The idea of a slider BlackBerry, featuring a physical full qwerty keyboard running BB 10 are the key points for the Milan design and for RIM to go ahead and scrap that idea entirely would be rather foolish of them as there is a market for those devices among users. Aside from all of that, RIM has a history of scrapping one hardware design idea only to bring it back looking better then it did the first time around. Don’t be surprised if you see a device similar in design arrive from RIM in 2012.

BlackBerry 10 Milan Slider Cancelled?

The BlackBerry 10 Slider codenamed “Milan” is being rumored to have been cancelled due to a hardware issue with the device. There are also rumors that none of the BlackBerry 10 devices have even been made yet. Apparently they are still in engineering under New Product Introduction (NPI). RIM is also rumored to be waiting for a new LTE dual-core processor from Qualcomm. They will have to wait for the new processor before they start producing BlackBerry 10 devices.

I really hope that Qualcomm will do its part to get these LTE dual-core processors to RIM as

Want to develop for BlackBerry Smartphones in 2012? Check out Beginning BlackBerry 7 Development from Apress

Beginning BlackBerry 7 Development

Just before I headed out on holidays, the courier dropped off a couple of copies to me of Apress’ latest book for BlackBerry, called Beginning BlackBerry 7 Development. The original Beginning BlackBerry Development book was written by Anthony Rizk, and it has been updated and re-written by Rob Kao and Dante Sarigumba for BlackBerry 7. I’m not quite sure how my name made the cover of this one, but I’ll take it (Mama CrackBerry is so proud).

As we learned at DevCon 2011, with 70+ million app hungry BlackBerry users in the world, there are a lot of downloads to be made and dollars to be earned in developing for BlackBerry Smartphones. And with BlackBerry 10 Phones being delayed until later in 2012, it’s looking for developers like the BlackBerry 7 Smartphone life cycle (and opportunity to generate ROI) is now going to be longer than it may have been if BlackBerry 10 phones were hitting sooner.

So if you’re interested in broadening your skills in 2012 and making BlackBerry users happy while earning yourself some $$, check out Beginning BlackBerry 7 Development, available from Amazon (and elsewhere), at the links below!

Using BlackBerry Tasks in everyday life

BlackBerry Tasks

In an effort to keep myself more organized and ensuring maximum productivity I have been assigning myself tasks to complete each day, but keeping track of them can be a bit difficult for me. After trying several different options, making lists in Memo Pad, adding calendar appointments, email reminders and more I realized none of them really met my needs. When trying to keep organized options are key, simplicity is a must, and reminders need to be reliable, and luckily I found all of these right in the native BlackBerry Tasks application.

Most of the times when looking to complete something specific on a phone the first thing I do is search around for a third party application to allow me to get things done, but this time the answer was found via a pre-installed application. Hit the break with me to see how BlackBerry Tasks is used in my daily life.
